Vincenzo Petrocelli

Vincenzo Pasquale Petrocelli (Cervaro, 1825 - Naples, 1896) was an Italian painter,〔Gubernatis occasionally spells his name ''Petrucelli''〕 active most notably as a painter of historical scenes.
== Biography ==
Petrocelli was born in Cervaro (today in Lazio), in the province of Terra di Lavoro. He had a difficult early life; he was orphaned as a child. By 18 years old, Vincenzo Petrocelli was able to enroll in the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, where he was mentored by Domenico Morelli and where he distinguished himself in the literary and historical themes.
Petrocelli debuted in the "Exhibition Borbonica" of 1839, which will also participate in 1841, in 1848 (with the works "Ginevra genuflessa nella cappella di S. Orsola in Barletta", "Morte di Galeazzo Sforza", "Isabella di Firenze") and in 1851 (with the work "Una famiglia di neofiti sorpresa dalle guardie pretoriane"), later came under the influence of Marià Fortuny.
In the National Exhibition of Naples of 1877, Petrocelli was reviewed very favorably by critics for "the excellent arrangement of colors". Morelli and Petrocelli were the only painters selected to compete for a series of paintings for the church of San Francesco in Gaeta.
Among his pupils was Marino Faliero.
